ST. PAUL, Minn. (August 9, 2005)—Weekes Forest Products, Inc., one of the Midwest’s largest privately held lumber & building products distributors, has selected CorrectDeck® composite decking for a pedestrian trestle project in Menasha, Wisc.  The bridge trestle, which spans Little Lake Butte des Morts, connects the Town of Menasha with the City of Menasha.

Weekes, the designated supplier for the project, recommended CorrectDeck to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WI-DOT), because of the strength of CorrectDeck composite decking and its ability to meet the state’s upgraded standards for pedestrian bridges.  WI-DOT had recently upgraded its building code with more stringent requirements.  Weekes determined that CorrectDeck was the only composite decking manufacturer able to meet those standards.  WI-DOT approved the recommendation.

According to Bob Scarborough, Vice President – Marketing and Distribution, Weekes researched a number of composite decking products before choosing Correct Deck for this application.

“We knew this would be a huge undertaking, but through the combination of the WI-DOT, our dealer distribution and the marketing efforts in the field, all members of the team worked hard to secure this project with CorrectDeck,” Scarborough said.

Marty Grohman, CorrectDeck president, said his company’s decking uses polypropylene for its plastic material, which is considerably stronger than other composites that use a polyethylene base.  Grohman said city and town officials also preferred CorrectDeck’s 25-year limited warranty.

“That’s why we were able to meet the state’s upgraded building code standards,” Grohman said.  “Polypropylene provides a stronger and stiffer board that is more suited to handling the pedestrian traffic as well as the elements, and it lasts much longer.”

CorrectDeck is providing more than 300,000-feet of composite decking for the project, which is scheduled for completion by Labor Day.  In addition to planking for the bridge, the project includes decking for boardwalks on both sides of the trestle, four fishing platforms and a center platform with a pavilion.

The trestle had been used as a bridge by the CN Railroad, which abandoned it l0 years ago.  The state and the two municipalities linked by the trestle have worked together to complete the project.
